The Story: Now an iPhone App

Last month I wrote this post where I linked to several online resources to aid online evangelism. One of those resources is a gospel presentation called The Story. The Story also allows you to link to the presentation via tracking code, so that you can view stats on the number and location of those viewing through your link. I really like the attractiveness and content of The Story. Printed copies can also be ordered, with the same content as the website. It’s a great resource.

Now, The Story is available as an iPhone app. The presentation has been reproduced exactly as it’s found on the website. Instead of carrying tracts around, you have one as close as your iPhone. In fact, there’s an extended “conversation tool” included, as well. You can log in to the same account as your website presentation. And the views from your iPhone are included in the stats.

I highly recommend The Story, both the web app and the iPhone app. With the iPhone app, we now have another tool in our evangelism toolbox.

Evangelism Principle

First get the centre of the fire hot, and people will be warmed on its outskirts, and drawn in. If we want the gospel to spread in the community of which we are a part, we would be unwise to start with some evangelistic outreach. We would be much better employed in paying attention to the quality of our church life. That is going to be the magnet that draws others to the Jesus who has made us into His body. But if our fellowship is cold, if nobody stays behind after the services because they are, frankly, ready to get away, if the music is dominated by an orge, if the minister is too fond of his own voice, if people are made to feel of a consumer mentality, rather than participants, if joy is frowned upon, then we are unlikely to see significant growth.

The world is as close as your web browser. Today, with just one message, there is the potential of millions receiving that message almost instantly.

What if that message included the Gospel of Jesus Christ? That would make you a missionary to the entire world, right from that seat. Never has the world been so accessible to us. With technology, there is no limit to the people we can connect with, right now. So how can you leverage that potential?

There are many websites that provide you the tools to be an online missionary. I want to list just a few that will get you started.

yesHEis – yesHeis provides culturally relevant videos that you can share on Facebook, Twitter, or any of your social networks. These videos can be used to start or enhance discussions with people who have concerns about Christianity.

The Web Evangelism Guide – I’ve been following this site for many years. They provide good, simple tools for your online missionary efforts. Their monthly email newsletter is a subscription must. Their newsletter first brought my attention to the above site, yesHEis.

Internet Evangelism Day – Internet Evangelism Day is coming up the last Sunday in April, which will be Easter this year. This site is part of the Web Evangelism page listed above. You can learn more about how you can participate in Internet Evangelism Day, and interact with others throughout the year, at this site.

The Story – The Story is a great Gospel presentation that you can link to and embed in your church website or blog. The Story provides tracking information, so you can see how many people view your page and their reactions. I love this presentation. You can also get printed copies of The Story. Our church uses the printed copy to include in our welcome packs for 1st time guests.

Facebook: The Fields are White

Here’s a fascinating infographic depicting the mass obsession with Facebook. One of the interesting numbers: 71% of the ENTIRE POPULATION of the US is on Facebook. At what point in history has the church had instant access to almost 3/4 of the country’s population? You really need to be on and using Facebook.

LifePointe Teens Reach Out

The Pointe is the student ministry of our church, LifePointe. They had this crazy idea and decided to follow through with it. The results was awesome.

They ordered some squeeze water bottles with their logo and website printed on them. They stuffed these bottles with various other things related to The Pointe and a Gospel of John. Friday night they all went to the local hangouts and gathering spots for the teens around here, throwing out the bottles and inviting everyone to pizza in our parking lot.

You know what? People showed up! (Take a look at some pictures from that night, courtesy of Beth Schmoock and her facebook page) And yeah, they had some problems with a guy, but that turned out well in the end. Our students and student leaders have a heart for their community. I love seeing them take the initiative and reaching out into others lives.

I’m proud of The Pointe! They get it!

Social Media and Ministry

What’s your church doing with Twitter or Facebook? Are you using these resources for building the Kingdom?

Watch the video below. If you and your church are not leveraging all the tools the internet provides, you are going to get left behind. In a day when most people don’t want you knocking on their door, you can now travel right into their living room.

Your family is there, your friends are there, your unreached neighbors are there, and most of your town in there. Are you there? Is your church there?

Nobody’s going to press the rewind button. The world and its technology will continue to advance. We’re called to reach the world. We have the tools. What’s stopping you?
