I’ve had foot problems all my life and last year I found out why. Seems like I’m one of the special 2-12% or so of the population who have an extra bone in our foot. I have a very prominent bone sticking out of the inside of my right foot. It’s messing with tendons and stuff so the doctor is going to remove it and reattach the tendons. He’s also going to put a titanium insert somewhere in my ankle to compensate for years of badness. The surgery is outpatient so it’s not too complicated. My only problem is I’m flat on my back for several days, on crutches for a few weeks, and in some kind of medieval torture boot device after that for a while. Number one concern for me, can I get up and preach next week? Yep. I don’t plan on missing a Sunday!

I’ve never had surgery, unless you count wisdom teeth. broken bones, and stitches (which don’t count anyway). So I’m a little concerned. I don’t know what to expect. I wouldn’t call it fear, maybe apprehension. As this post hits the blog (yeah, I can schedule this stuff – Scary!), I’m right now at the church preaching on worry, and how worry can hold our hearts hostage and make our lives miserable. Ain’t it like God to do that. I find that the way God prepares me to deliver a sermon is to first make me live it. So surgery is Monday, which is tomorrow. And you know what Jesus says about tomorrow, right?

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34, NLT).
