Scripture Used in December 14 Sermon

December 14, 2008, by Rob, category blog

big_wordsWe finished up the sermon series: Big Words, with a look at redemption. Again, I used a bunch of Scripture in this message and want to make it available for you. Hope God uses it in your life.

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.(Jn 8:34, NLT)

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.(Ro 3:23, NLT)

They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.(2 Pe 2:19, NLT)

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.(Col 2:8, NLT)

Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.(Ro 1:22-25, NLT)

For I was born a sinner- yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.(Ps 51:5, NLT)

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.(Ro 3:20, NLT)

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.(Ro 5:6, NLT)
For God in all His fullness was pleased to live in Christ. (Colossians 1:19, NLT)

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.(Mt 5:17, NLT)

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.(Ro 6:14, NLT)

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.(Ga 5:1, NLT)

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.(Ga 3:13-14, NLT)

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(Mt 20:28, NLT)

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.(Eph 1:7, NLT)

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.(Col 1:13-14, NLT)

He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.(Tit 2:14, NLT)

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.(Ro 8:1, NLT)

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.(Jn 8:36, NLT)

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”(Ro 8:14-15, NLT)

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.(Eph 1:5, NLT)

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.(Ga 3:26, NLT)

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.(Jn 1:12, NLT)

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.(1 Jn 3:1-2, NLT)

That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.(Heb 9:15, NLT)
