The Old Days – RobsLinks.com

The logo from my old RobsLinks.com websiteThere’s a website out there called The Wayback Machine where you can seach for a website and see it as it was 2, 3, or even 10 years ago. Back in 1996 I started a website called Rob’s Christian Links. It was kind of a Google for Christian websites. Of course, it never became huge like Google but at one time it received around 2000 visits a day and made me a couple of hundred dollars a month.

I was reading Mark Batterson’s blog and he mentioned The Wayback machine. I dug into it and found my site from years ago. Most of the graphics are not there but you can tell what the site was like. Take a step back in time and check out RobsLinks.com from 2001. There’s even a small photo of me all dressed up!

RobsLinks.com kind of faded as I got more involved in ministry and I sold out, really just gave it away, without complaining. But it sure brings back memories. I made a lot of contacts through that site and rubbed virtual shoulders with a lot of people. I see, as of November 2001, I had over 8000 Christian sites in the search database. I can’t imagine how many there would be now.

I bought the domain name RobsLinks.com back in 1996 I think for $75. The name went to the company I was partnered with and it’s changed hands a few times since. I did a little research and the name is now owned by Soul Mates International in Calgary, Alberta. Wonder what I could get my name back for?

[Added after exploring my old site a little more]
As I dig a little deeper into my old website, I found the old ‘About Page.’ Click here and read it, including my testimony. So cool to find all this. And also, a picture of my original website, from 1996. Wow. If you’re old school internet, do you remember checking out RobsLinks.com? I’d love to hear about it!
