I was surprised and encouraged at the location of Mountain Lake Church. They are in a growing area of north Georgia but it was still almost a rural setting. That was the surprise. The encouraging aspect is they are reaching many, many for Christ. As I understand it, they have four services, with about 2,000 attending every Sunday. Our church, LifePointe, is not in the fastest growing area of the nation. Amory has a population of 7,000+ and the county has around 38,000. I’m encouraged by Mountain Lake’s reach in their area and the possibilities we have at LifePointe.
From my perspective, the conference was a much needed pep rally for me. It was great to be with 100s of guys and gals who are where we’re at. At least now I know I’m not the only crazy dude doing this church planting thing.
I can’t single out one thing about the conference as being better than the other because I needed to hear and learn all that was covered. What I took away from all of it is that the church will rise and fall on the leadership, and, right now, at this stage, I’m it. I cornered one of the guys speaking there and he gave me permission to lead LifePointe Church. I don’t know why, but it really sunk in then. It was a great moment that is hanging with me now.
Teresa and I did get to connect with Devin and Derrick Hudson for a few minutes. These southern boys are flipping Las Vegas for Jesus and it was exciting to see them, meet some of their team, and hear what’s going on out there.
The best part of the whole conference was to have two full days alone with Teresa. We both badly needed it. We got to really talk for the first time in a long time. I think we both came back renewed, recharged, and ready to charge the gates of hell with a sponge!
