Next year I get a flu shot.

Last Wednesday night, we had our Survival Kit Bible Study kick off, with somewhere over 30 people present. I didn’t feel real good that day and by the time I got home I was hurting all over. It went downhill from there. Long story short – Sunday was the fourth service ever in the history of LifePointe Church, and I missed it. Flu. Confirmed by one Tim Watson, who seemed to be a little too happy to push a swab up my nose for the test.

We’re in the middle of getting this church on solid footing, planning a big Super Bowl party, making decisions on 100s of things, and I’m laid up in bed. I’m trying to find the deeper meaning and spiritual value to all this. For some reason Job comes to mind. And I’m waiting for that Romans 8:28 moment.

Any way, the fever is gone now. I still feel bad but I think that’s more from being out of the loop than anything else. I’m going back tonight to do the second night of Survival Kit and I think that will improve my mood. Heck, getting out of the house will improve my mood.

I remember in seminary one of my professors developed some type of throat problem and missed some time. When he returned he told of how God mightily used that time when he was sick to help him get some perspective. It was a contemplative time and focused him on some issues he might not have been focused on had he not been sick. The sickness was a blessing in disguise. He came back recovered, rejuvenated, and ready to conquer the gates of hell. It’s a great story. Didn’t happen for me. I was too sick to think.

Next year I get a flu shot.
