I’m beginning to put together a group of people around the country who I will ask to commit to praying specifically for LifePointe Church, my family, and future members. Here’s a copy of the letter that will be going out to many people in the next few days. You may find one of these in your mailbox soon.
You are receiving this letter from Rob, Teresa, and Lauren Westbrook. As you know, we are now living in Monroe County, Mississippi. We are here because we believe God wants us to begin a new church in the Amory/Monroe County area. This new church will be known as LifePointe Church.
Monroe County has a population of over 38,000 people. According to data we’ve found, there are over 14,000 of these people who have no relationship with any church of any kind. That’s 14,000 unchurched people in our county, which is over 35% of the total population. The Southern Baptist churches in Monroe County make up almost exactly 50% of the churches in the county. The Southern Baptist churches average about 2,700 people in Sunday School each morning or 7% of the county’s total population. Double that 7% for the other denominations, and there are still almost 33,000 people who are not attending any church of any denomination on any given Sunday. This represents 86% of the county’s population. Somewhere between 35% and 86% of Monroe County’s population have no strong commitment to attending any church. It is probably safe to say that most of those who make up this percentage have no real relationship with Jesus Christ. That is why we believe God has called us to plant a new church here.
Many of these 14,000 to 33,000 people may have attended church in the past but, for various reasons, no longer attend. Whatever the reason, God still loves them and wants them back in fellowship with Him and with other believers. That is why we believe God has called us to plant a new church here.
Also, a large percentage of these people are truly unchurched. These are people, who early in their lives or college years, left the confines of their churches, if they ever attended, disillusioned by the lack of any real life change being observed in those that were supposed to be strong church members. These people left the church, married, raised their children outside of church, and now their grandchildren are raising third and fourth generations of children who have no memory of church, and no true knowledge of the Gospel. That is why we believe God has called us to plant a new church here.
As we hope you can see, there is definitely a need for a new church here.
Over the past few months we have been talking with others and seeking those people that God is also drawing to start a new church. We are also in the preliminary stages of searching for a place the church can meet. There have been conversations with other local churches and the Mississippi Baptist Convention, seeking their support for LifePointe Church. God, in His timing, is starting to bring together people that will be part of the launch of His new church, LifePointe Church, in Amory, Mississippi.
A key component in planting a new church is prayer. Those who are planting a new church are on the front lines of a spiritual battle. When light attempts to shine into darkness, the darkness will always fight back. Our intention for LifePointe Church is to shine the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into every nook and cranny of Monroe County. We have already taken some shots in this spiritual battle, and there will be many more to come in the future.
That’s why we’ve sent you this letter. This is where you come in. We are writing to ask you to consider joining our LifePointe Intercessory Prayer Team. We desperately need people who have a strong relationship and strong prayer life with Jesus Christ to join us in prayer. We are asking you to become the prayer warriors that will have God’s ear and pray for the success of LifePointe Church and the Westbrook family. Jesus told us to ask, seek, and knock. He promised that when we ask we will be answered, when we seek we will find. And when we knock, things will be opened.
Here is what we ask of you as part of the LifePointe Intercessory Prayer Team:
- Pray daily that God will continue raising up people who will be part of the LifePointe Launch Team.
- Pray daily that Rob will have the strength, courage, and wisdom to follow God and bring things together.
- Pray that we will be able to find an adequate place for the church to meet.
- Pray that God will provide the monetary funds needed to finance LifePointe Church.
- Pray for positive relationships between LifePointe and other churches, pastors, and the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
- Pray that God will use LifePointe Church to reach 1,000s of those without a church family or a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Pray that God will be glorified in this region by LifePointe Church.
- Pray that the Westbrook family will continue to be a strong, Christ-centered family.
In return, we intend to send you LifePointe Intercessory Prayer Team updates. We are planning to send these to you monthly. These updates will give you our progress report and also include new prayer requests as they arise, as well as calendars as we move forward with our church launch.
We hope that you will seriously consider becoming a part of the LifePointe Intercessory prayer Team. At this point in LifePointe’s early days, there is nothing greater needed than for hundreds of people seeking God’s face for LifePointe Church and the Westbrook family. LifePointe will have a difficult time being successful without people committed to pray daily for LifePointe Church. You have come to our minds as someone who will take a commitment to pray for LifePointe seriously. We know you, love you, and believe that you would want to be part of the LifePointe Intercessory Prayer Team.
Enclosed you will find a self-addressed, postage paid, LifePointe Intercessory Prayer Team Commitment Card. If you feel led to become a team member, please completely feel out the card and drop it in the mail so that we’ll know you want to be a team member. Feel free to make copies of the card for others. We hope and pray you will join us. Together in prayer, we can take this Amory and this county for Jesus Christ!
